Project Summary

Our project aims to provide Love and Logic parenting classes to high-risk families in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. These classes will empower parents with effective parenting techniques, fostering healthy family dynamics and improving the well-being of children and parents alike.

Background

Pottawatomie County has a significant number of high-risk families facing challenges such as poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to mental health resources. These families often struggle with stress, anxiety, and a lack of effective parenting strategies, leading to adverse outcomes for children.

Project Goals

  1. Enhance Parenting Skills: Equip parents with practical, loving, and effective parenting strategies using the Love and Logic approach. This will also improve the quality of life for children and their future children.

  2. Support Child Development: Improve the emotional, social, and cognitive development of children by fostering a nurturing and supportive home environment.

  3. Strengthen Family Bonds: Promote healthy family relationships and reduce the risk of family conflicts and crises. This will also promote real and lasting change for the community.

Target Audience

High-risk families in Pottawatomie County, including single-parent households, families experiencing financial hardships, and those with children exhibiting behavioral or emotional challenges.

Group therapy session
Project Implementation

  • Class Structure: We will offer two classes per week, each lasting 6 weeks, to accommodate different schedules and maximize participation. We will grow to more classes each week as the need increases. The goal of 2025 is to complete 50 groups. We will have 10 participants in each group.

  • Content: The curriculum will cover essential topics such as setting limits, empathetic parenting, effective discipline, and managing stress. Increasing love in the home that will promote increased parental bonding and lead to improved quality of life for the family and children.

A Supportive Hug
Support Services

Participants will have access to additional support, including counseling services, resource referrals, and follow-up sessions. These groups will be taught by MHP at my facility where clients will have the opportunity to be able to schedule mental health/ trauma counseling as well.
